OPTIMIST CLUB ANNOUNCES 2016 ORATORICAL CONTEST

Tuesday, March 15 at 6:00 PM.

Zionsville High School

Each year, the Zionsville Optimist Club (ZOC) sponsors an Oratorical contest in coordination with the worldwide organization, Optimist International (optimist.org).

Knowing that public speaking and oral communication is one of the most vital elements to personal and career success, the Oratorical Contest provides a forum for young adults to speak out to the world. Oral communications allow us to form connections, influence others and motivate people throughout our entire lives.

For 2016, the Oratorical Contest is open to any students that reside in Zionsville and were under the age of 18 as of October 1, 2015.  Applications for the Contest are to be submitted no later than Friday, March 11 for the Contest to be held at ZHS on Tuesday, March 15 at 6:00 PM.

Interested students are to deliver their speeches on this year’s assigned topic, “How My Best Brings Out the Best in Others”.  Students are required to prepare a four-to-five minute speech on this topic. The format is purely oral without the use of props, computer presentations, costumes or special clothing.

The Oratorical Contest awards winning contestants the opportunity to compete for scholarships for colleges, universities or trade schools at different levels. Initial awards begin with recognition at the ZOC club level, escalate to $2,500 at the District level and up to $15,000 at the international level.
